Ingredients

  • 680 g (1 1/2 lb) chicken drumsticks, with or without skin
  • 284 ml (10 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup or canned mushroom soup
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) chili sauce
  • 80 ml (1/3 cup) brown sugar
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) Sambal œlek or other spicy sauce, to taste
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) soya sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, degermed and chopped
  • Oil (for the grill)

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, combine marinade ingredients well. Put drumsticks in a re-sealable plastic bag with the marinade, and marinate for 2 to 3 hours in refrigerator.
  2. Preheat barbecue to medium heat for 5 minutes. Oil the grill.
  3. Sponge drumsticks and grill them on barbecue over medium heat for about 20 minutes, depending on size, or until core temperature reaches 77 °C (170 °F). Serve with raw vegetables and homemade French fries.

Notes and tips

The drumsticks can be precooked in the microwave and then grilled on the barbecue. Sambal œlek is a hot pepper sauce. We can find it in most supermarkets. The quantity of Sambal œlek to use depends on your fondness of spicy foods. To accompany drumsticks, there is nothing better than a plate of raw vegetables and a light sour cream dip. Alternative cooking method: Cook in the oven at 190 °C (375 °F) for 30 minutes or until core temperature reaches 77 °C (170 °F).
